Symposium: From Stage to Campus (and back)

POPLIVE was een grootschalig onderzoeksproject naar livemuziek dat plaatsvond van 2017 tot 2022 aan de Erasmus Universiteit en Hogeschool Rotterdam.

Hierbij werkte POPLIVE samen met de VNPF en MOJO Concerts BV. Het project werd gesubsidieerd door de NWO als onderdeel van de Topsector Creatieve Industrie. In dit onderzoeksproject analyseerde POPLIVE de waarde van live popmuziek, daarbij werd niet alleen naar de economische, maar ook naar de sociale en culturele waarde gekeken.

Na zichzelf vijf  jaar te hebben ondergedompeld in de wereld van livemuziek, is het voor een van de trekkers van POPLIVE, Martijn Mulder, binnenkort zover. Op vrijdag 7 juli 2023 verdedigt hij zijn proefschrift “I was There! Pop venues and festivals and their value in the ecosystem of live music” aan de Erasmus Universiteit van Rotterdam. In het kader daarvan wordt er de dag ervoor een (Engelstalig) symposium georganiseerd.

Pop music research in practice. A symposium on the value of pop music research for the music industry vice versa. How can the music sector and academia strengthen each other?

Speakers:

  • Daniel Nordgård | Agder University, NO | professor in music business and digitalisation, former musician, concert promoter and festival manager.
  • Britt Swartjes | EUR | researcher in the European funded project Festiversities, which focuses on festivals as public spaces where people from diverse backgrounds get to meet.
  • Frank Kimenai | EUR | researcher and advisor on (pop) music ecosystems and entrepreneur in the music industries.

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion on the value of pop music research for the music industries by the three speakers and POPLIVE-researcher Martijn Mulder, who will defend his dissertation ‘I was There!’ on live music on July 7.
